Faux Succulent Wall Decor
Last Updated on February 29, 2020 by lydiaf1963
Today I’m going to show you how to make a super quick faux succulent wall hanging that will bring a little spring into your home.
Why a faux succulent wall hanging?
Spring is the theme for this month’s Pinterest challenge. I’ve long had this real succulent wall on one of my Pinterest boards. I love the look of it but always rejected the idea of trying to make it as unrealistic for our situation.
That is until I walked into a little bar and saw how the owner had used faux succulents and a basket to emulate the look.
I’m not sure how to describe the decor of the bar. There’s a mix of old furniture that’s been painted and decoupaged along with paper maché deer heads and prints of woodland creatures wearing floral crowns. It’s sort of a fantastical lake cabin with bonus wine and tapas.
You could say I’ve had a lifelong fascination with succulents. I imagine it’s true for most people who love them. From my youngest days I remember the hens and chicks my Nana grew outside her door. My mother grew Autumn Joy in her garden. She loved to give away cuttings and plants to her friends. When I moved into my own place I took some with me as a little piece of home.
Personally, I find the symmetry of many succulent varieties to be soothing to the eye and I admire the toughness of these plants which survive in very harsh conditions.
I even like faux succulents, including those made with felt and paper. They don’t have to look real as long as they don’t look chintzy and the price is right.
Materials and Equipment Needed
Materials
- straw basket, round or square
- faux succulents
Equipment
- glue gun and glue sticks
- awl
- protective mat
- wall hanger
When I ordered my faux succulents online I made sure to buy a set with some color. I’m pleased with what I ordered, they’re made from a rubbery material and the colors are realistic.
I selected an everyday dollar store basket, turned it over and arranged my faux succulents in a way that was appealing to me. Since my basket is woven I was able to push many of the succulents through the holes. A couple times I used an awl to create a hole where none existed.
Once I was pleased with the arrangement I used a glue gun to fix the stems in place.
It’s a little shocking how quickly this project came together. It took maybe 20 minutes once all the materials were gathered!
What do you think? Do you have a spot in your home that could be brightened by the addition of faux succulent wall art? Give it a try!

My kids are fascinated always by the succulents my mom has in her garden, what a cute connection. I’m still fascinated as an adult too. Very pretty wall decor and what a great idea, I really like them in the basket.
Thank you! I enjoyed making it.
I see these faux succulents all over the place and never really know what to do with them. Cute idea. Pinned.
Thanks for pinning! I have a few succulents left and have been searching Pinterest for inspiration.
I love your cute and sweet succulent craft. Very pretty!
Very pretty! My daughter is getting a new house and loves succulents – I’ll have to make her one of these!
Congratulations to your daughter!
It’s so pretty and makes me want to make one as well.
It turned out great. What a clever wall decor idea. I like the bold and blended shades. I should do one for my kitchen for Summer! I share your love and fascination with the sizes, shapes and colors of succulents.
Really cute wall decor! I love that you used a dollar store basket for it. I recently bought the supplies to make a succulent wall piece using a picture frame, but I’m loving the basket idea, too.
Great project. I love succulents but have hard time keeping them alive so I am happy to find great looking faux ones to display around my home. Thanks for sharing an idea to try out.
That looks fabulous! I can’t believe how simple it is. So modern and on trend but super easy – bonus!
It turned out beautiful! I love succulents, too!
Great idea to use faux succulents on a wall hanging. No need to water and you’ll never have to worry about it dying. Pinned.
At first, I thought you used one of those fancy hanging woven baskets, but it’s even better that you used a regular woven basket! Awesome idea.
