Every Teddy Needs A Friend

Last Updated on August 2, 2017 by lydiaf1963

This cute knitted teddy is a fun project. He looks like he’s wearing a sweater, thanks to the self patterning sock yarn. The construction is seamless and an advanced beginner will have the skills required to make him. All he needs is a little friend!

With the new baby on the way my daughter has been working to help her oldest child soothe himself to sleep at night. His preference is for one of his parents to lie down with him until he goes to sleep, like many children his age. Teddy is now his sleep buddy, although he isn’t quite as soothing as my daughter would like!

The pattern is free from Schachenmayr’s website and isn’t difficult to follow. My only complaint is I prefer my patterns to be more concise; you may like the way it’s written. In order to achieve the seamless construction you work each leg separately then create the body.

After the arms are completed you join them to the body and make decreases to form the neck. Stuff the body at this point then move on to shape the head by working back and forth. Once the body is completed change the yarn to make the face and stuff the head. Embroider the eyes and mouth then make the ears and sew them on.

This was my Summer project and I worked on it off and on so I’m not sure how many hours I actually have in it, but estimate it’s less than 12, not counting the time I spent looking for the yarn and filling. The construction was fun, especially the way all the pieces were joined together.
