Upcycled Canisters for Craft Room Storage
Last Updated on September 5, 2022 by lydiaf1963
It took a while to get around to making these upcycled canisters to hold various bits and bobs in my craft room, but I think the end results are worth it.
This simple upcycled craft is part of the DIY Blog Hop hosted by Tarah of Grandma’s House DIY.
I chose a glittery rose gold paint to match other gold décor in my craft room. The drawer pulls came from a discount store. All in all I have about $10 in making these two.
It’s kind of my sister’s idea
The original cans of panettone bites came from her wedding. I thought they’d be great for upcycling.
Did I mention her wedding was in February?
Anyway, I taped the top edge of the cans and sprayed both of them and their lids with primer. After they set overnight, I sprayed everything with several coats of glitter paint.
There’s a learning curve to using that stuff. I have a couple areas to touch up, but all in all I got good coverage.
Fortunately, the weather was good and I was able to work outside.
After installing the drawer pulls to use as lid pulls, I put my canisters to work in my craft room. One holds a collection of ink and paint pens and the other a bunch of jewelry tools. Those aren’t “primary” crafts for me, but I feel better knowing I can easily find those items should I need them.
Here they are in my craft room. I usually refer to this room as my taller, the Spanish word for workshop. When we lived in Spain, we had a 3 bedroom apartment. My husband Rick and I each had a taller. His also served as pantry and closet storage while mine was my office, a spare bedroom and where we dried clothes as needed.
My current taller is a work in progress. I plan to share more at a later date. In the meantime, my new upcycled canisters will grace the bookshelf and keep some of my supplies close at hand.
I wasn’t the only blogger upcycling this month. Let’s check out what the others in our group have accomplished.
Tarah of Grandma’s House DIY created a centerpiece using antique insulators.
Niky from The House on Silverado transformed this side table into something special with her favorite team colors.
Niki of Life as an LEO Wife made a fun seasonal key holder.

These canisters are so great! I have some that I’ve been saving to upcycle for my craft closet. This gives me some great inspiration. 🙂
Fun hopping with you!

Wow! These are beautiful. I’ll have to try it out.
