How to Make a Faux Succulent Magnet Garden
Last Updated on April 21, 2020 by lydiaf1963
It’s time for the monthly Pinterest Challenge! This month the theme is Mother’s Day or something to appeal to a woman. With all the shops closed due to the coronavirus, I turned to my stash and created a Faux Succulent Magnet Garden.
You may recall a couple months ago I made a Faux Succulent Wall Hanging. When doing research for that project, I came across this pin which featured little succulents inside corks. I loved the idea. We always have corks available (*cough*) and there were a few faux succulents left over from the last project.
This is relatively quick to put together, although it involved tools.
Let’s make a Faux Succulent Magnet Garden!
You will need these materials:
- faux succulents (smaller, more compact is better)
- corks of various sizes
- a drill with a 1/4″ spade bit (or something to create a hole)
- a glue gun and glue sticks
- magnets strong enough to support the weight of the cork and succulent (I had to replace some of the smaller magnets shown in the photo above.)
- heavy duty scissors or wire cutters
To make the magnets:
- Drill a hole into the center of the cork. We drilled a pilot hole first, then used the larger bit.
- Trim the stem of the faux succulent to fit
- Use hot glue to fill the hole, them set the succulent in place
- Glue a magnet onto the back of the cork
- If needed, trim the succulent’s foliage so the magnet will sit flush
- “Plant” your garden on the fridge or other magnetic surface.
