I received a Beets BLU Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are mine. Affiliate links within the post are indicated. If you follow them you’ll be taken to Amazon where I may make a small commission for any purchases you make.
I have to admit, I wasn’t in the market for a heart rate monitor, but I was curious about how useful they would be for someone who exercises on a regular basis, but is far from an elite athlete.
Wearing the device is comfortable and the snaps are pretty sturdy. The straps do a great job of holding the device snugly in place, but don’t adjust small enough to fit on a baby, as shown. Doesn’t the sight of those little toes make your heart beat faster? If you had a Beets BLU Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor (affiliate link) you could record the phenomenon.
It took a little while to connect the device to the app, but the brochure warns of this possibility. Once it was connected it worked great. The charts that are generated are fascinating. You can see the extra effort needed to ascend a flight of stairs for example, and most surprising, I’m in better shape than I thought I was for an old girl. I’m going to have to up my walking game to 12,000 steps a day now.
That’s all well and good, but how well does it work for someone who’s a serious athlete? To answer that question I had my daughter put it through its paces. She’s getting back into shape after giving birth to my grandson, the world’s cutest fitness model. She was able to easily connect the device to her phone and then she pumped up her heart rate with a tabata workout followed by a short run. She suggests using a cream (affiliate link) if necessary to maintain a good connection.
The Beets BLU Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor (affiliate link) works with various Apple, Samsung Galaxy and Nexus models. Follow the link to see if your phone is compatible. It works with their proprietary app or with your favorite fitness app, like Map My Run.
Do you use a heart rate monitor or other device to track your workouts? What has been your experience?
