Three Diversionary Tales for Winter Reading (Updated to Six!)

Last Updated on December 14, 2018 by lydiaf1963

Did you get an Amazon gift card for Christmas? Ready for a little winter reading and need for an endorsement? Here are three novels I’ve read in the last couple of months that I will gladly recommend as being worthwhile reads.

First up is a new fantasy series from prolific novelist Nora Roberts. You may know her for her romantic thrillers and rest assured this book has both those elements. Add in a killer virus, the transformation of normal people into magical beings like wizards, fairies and elves PLUS a prophecy and you have a page turner! I’d give Nora Roberts’ Year One: Chronicles of the One, Book 1 five stars based on her solid writing alone, but I’m kind of excited to see another woman enter the realm of apocalyptic fiction as well. I’m glad she writes quickly. We won’t have to wait years for the next installment. *cough* George RR Martin *cough*

UPDATE FOR 2018: Of Blood and Bone (Book 2) is now available! And in my Kindle queue!

The Good Daughter is a little different than Karin Slaughter’s usual books. The main characters aren’t in law enforcement at all. They’re a pair of sisters dealing with the aftermath of a horrific experience linked to their father’s work as a defense attorney. Years later the sisters are sorting through their father’s estate and find out there still are many unanswered questions about the night that changed everything.

UPDATE FOR 2018: Check out my review for Pieces of Her

I wrote a post about the Hetta Coffey books by Jinx Schwartz a while back. If the series was a TV Show, this would be a reunion episode. Just about every supporting character from previous novels makes an appearance in
Just Follow the Money. If you’re hungry for a new Hetta adventure, you’ll want to add this to your library. If you’re a new reader I recommend starting at the beginning with Just Add Water, the first in the series.UPDATE for 2018: The latest book in this series Just for the Birds is available through Kindle Unlimited!

Any of these books (or any other written by these authors) will give you hours of entertainment. Perfect for a Winter read.
