One of the reasons I started Life Beyond the Kitchen was to work more on blog design and in particular the Genesis Framework. I’m using the Genesis Sample Theme which is pretty bare bones as far as styling goes. I’ve made a few changes this week by adding some drop shadows and creating a new logo for the blog. What do you think? Does it look alright on your screen? (If you’re on mobile you probably won’t notice a difference unless you load the full site.) Constructive criticism is welcome. I’d like to change my fonts up a bit and add a little more flair to the menu as well as jazz up my sidebar.

While packing for our visit, I made a conscious decision to leave my laptop in Spain, thinking I could do most of my blogging via my phone. That turned out to be easier said than done because while my son was generous to share his computer with me, it’s only available when he isn’t home. I’ve decided the best thing would be to dial my blogging activities way back. Despite the lack of posts, I’m actually getting a lot of behind the scenes stuff done. Beside the design work on the blog, I’ve been dabbling in making videos and putting together a mini cookbook to share with my readers at Lydia’s Flexitarian Kitchen. Most importantly, I’ve spent enough time with my grandson that he no longer cries when left alone with me and he’ll even let me hold him which makes my heart melt.

First things first…the Featured Post!

I am totally envious of people who find second hand furniture and give it a make over. Take these chairs from Robin of Redo It Yourself Inspirations. There’s nothing fancy about the dining room chairs in the before photo…they didn’t even have seats when she picked them up from a yard sale. With a little effort, and some paint, foam and fabric she gave the Plain Jane chairs a little French flair. Ooh la la! I guess now we should call them Belle Jeanne 🙂  I love the transformation!
